Aptly titled “Hulk Fiction”, issue 5 of Tozzer 2 closes out what has proven to be a spectacular mini-series. Take one part satire and another part pure justice, and blend it with pure fun, and out comes our hero Tozzer. From one mess to another, Tozzer and his friends Rod and Hornie manage to rise to the top.

The opening sequence of the issue is pure Matrix, with Star Wars slammed in to make a crazy concoction. Tozzer and his friends must overcome the evil plot that Morphine and his cronies have hatched. As all the other kids at the school are drugged and out of action, Tozzer uses a dash of the Hulk to save the day. Just when a person thinks it can’t get any better, writer Rob Dunlop swoops in with an outstanding King of Pop moment that seals the deal.

Dunlop and his partner in crime Peter Lumby have hit on a great genre with the Tozzer titles. They take the best and worst of Hollywood and the media and create situations that have Tozzer and his friends in a conundrum only they can solve and bring justice to. I appreciate the cartoony yet distinct style that Lumby employs to dramatize otherwise side-splitting scenes. The pacing is quick, but not so fast that the reader misses the boat.

I encourage adult readers looking for something fun and different to give Tozzer 2 a try. If your local store doesn’t have it, have them call Diamond and order it, or check the Tozzer website www.tozzer.com for other avenues to purchase it.

As much as I enjoyed the Tozzer trade, I think Tozzer 2 is even more entertaining and hilarious. I have come to feel a strange affection for this young boy and his friends, and hope to see them again soon. Give the book a try and let me know what you think. If you like it spread the word.
